Magellan RoadMate 3055 4.7-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic Review
As far as I'm concerned, none of the GPS units are fantastic. They all have their shortfalls. However, I've been using this unit for about a month and I'd say it's pretty good - better than it's main competitor.
We had 2 Garmin 765wt units and we've learned to hate them miserably. I was able to return one and get the Magellan which I like much better so far. The Magellan beats the Garmin in ALL of the following:
The Garmins take forever to acquire the sats; I'm always fighting with the zoom in/out function because its so slow to respond; if you just want to use it as a map, I find it very frustrating to move the map around because the response time and screen sensitivity are really poor; the Garmins get "lost" fairly often and don't know where they are. I have to shut it down and restart it so it can find itself; half the time it doesn't realize that it's on a divided roadway, so I'll be on a highway and it will tell me to turn left into a Jersey barrier just after I've passed a jug handle 1/4 mile back - man I HATE when it does that! I could go on, but I'm much happier with the Magellan. Garmin has the name and advertising budget, but for the day to day grind I'll hang onto the Magellan thank you.

Traffic Updates are useless.... - L. lien - las vegas
I had a Garmin before with traffic updates and it was useless. It would spit out traffic updates that are inaccurate and has nothing to do with what was going on in the real world. If you buy a GPS for traffic updates , don't even bother. I do think that Magellan GPS are more advance than the lame duck Garmin though Garmin is one of the 3 better ones out there.
Poor navigation logic - David E. Meyer - Atlanta, GA
I tested this unit against Google Maps and the Tomtom XL340TM on ten locations for fastest time. The worst performance was from an Atlanta, GA suburb to Tallahassee, FL. The Roadmate had the distance at 399 miles, while the other two had it at 295 & 300 miles. The Roadmate also projected an average speed of over 75 mph for the trip. There were other disappointing navigation choices but this was the worst.
On another trip I took it rutted me off a state Hwy and through a subdivision then back to the state Hwy. It latter routed me off a paved road and on to a gravel road just to save 2/10 of a mile.
Another problem with the Roadmate 3055 is the screen - it's not responsiveness to touch. Many times I had to press a letter three or four times to get recognized. Other times it would speak the letter but not record it on the screen.

I bought this unit as a replacement. It is slow to navigate. The bluetooth does not work with any cellphone I have tried it with. Magellan used to be the best there was available. Not this time. I just finished dealing with customer service, I am getting a Maestro 4700 in itl's place. I have two other 4700's & they both work just fine. I do not recommend the Roadmate 3055. Also, if you go to their customer service for assistance, don't deal with the off-shore rep., ask for their supervisor. The supervisor is much more likely to satisfy your request.
